about the company

anthronomics was formed as a result of years of working in biological anthropology and conversations with colleagues. The subject we work in is fascinating, but there are many times when it feels like we could do things better, more efficiently or more effectively. And frankly, sometimes more fun.

So, we decided not to talk about it anymore, but to set out to actually do just that. A bold claim, but “no guts, no glory”.

anthronomics is a spin-out company from Teesside University. It was formed with considerable support from the Department of Academic Enterprise there, in addition to an Enterprise Development Fund grant. Further financial support came through the Digital City, UnLtd and the North East England Investment Centre.

Ultimately anthronomics has been formed to make our lives a bit easier. We here are all working towards that aim, and we hope we meet it for you.

The University has been tremendously supportive of our efforts and mission statement. During the development of the company, we picked up a couple of prizes at the Blueprint Business Awards (the Ward Hadaway Science Award, and the Highly Commended in the Knowledge Transfer category) and we were nominated for the Vice-Chancellor’s award for enterprise activity. In 2014, our illustrious leader Dr Tim Thompson, won a National Teaching Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy – partly as a result of the success of our work in transforming teaching and support for learning in anthropology.
